Dockworkers in Genoa and Livorno have launched strikes, blocking access to major ports as part of a nationwide protest against Italy’s involvement in arms shipments to Israel. Organized under the banner "Let's Block Everything," the movement seeks to halt the transfer of military supplies amid Israel’s ongoing military operations in Gaza.
In Genoa, workers gathered early in the morning, waving Palestinian flags and preventing cargo ships from loading or unloading. The Autonomous Port Workers’ Collective, leading the demonstrations, emphasized solidarity with the Palestinian people and stressed their commitment to justice and peace.
The strikes have caused significant disruptions across Italy. Regional train services reported delays, and several schools closed temporarily. Despite this, major airports and metro systems in cities such as Rome and Milan continued operating without major interruptions.
Italian unions are demanding an end to the use of the country’s ports for military logistics supporting Israel. They argue that such involvement goes against Italy’s stated commitment to peace and human rights.
The Italian government, led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, has maintained a pro-Israel stance. However, these protests reflect growing domestic opposition to Italy’s role in the conflict and rising public concern over the implications for international peace and security.
Protests are expected to continue throughout the day in multiple cities. The movement highlights the widespread public attention on Italy’s foreign policy and the desire for greater accountability regarding its participation in global military operations.
