Abu Dhabi Launches First AI & Robotics Joint Lab with NVIDIA

Post by :

Abu Dhabi is taking a big step in technology and robotics by launching the Middle East’s first joint lab for artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. The lab is a result of a partnership between the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), a research hub in Abu Dhabi, and NVIDIA, a leading global company in AI and advanced computing. This new lab will focus on creating advanced AI models, building robotic systems, and developing humanoid technologies that can think, learn, and act in complex environments.

The launch of the TII-NVAITC Joint Lab for AI and Robotics was officially announced at TII’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi. Leaders from both organizations came together for a signing ceremony, highlighting the importance of this collaboration for the UAE and the broader Middle East. The agreement was signed by Dr. Najwa Aaraj, CEO of TII, and Marc Domenech, Regional Director of NVIDIA, with several top officials from both organizations present to mark this historic milestone.

This joint lab is part of Abu Dhabi’s long-term vision to become a global hub for AI and robotics. By combining TII’s research expertise with NVIDIA’s AI technology and computing power, the lab will help the UAE lead in the development of intelligent autonomous systems. This effort also supports the country’s goal of technological independence and strengthens its position as a major player in the global robotics industry.

Dr. Najwa Aaraj, CEO of TII, said, “This partnership with NVIDIA is an important step in building AI-powered robotic systems that can reason, learn, and operate in real-life scenarios. By combining AI models with advanced robotic platforms, we are moving towards a new era of intelligent machines.”

The lab will use NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platforms alongside TII’s research in AI, robotics, and autonomous systems. It will also focus on large AI models like the TII Falcon series, which are among the biggest AI models developed in the Middle East. The lab’s research will include robotic learning, control systems, and AI that can understand and interact with the physical world, also known as Physical AI.

Carlo Ruiz, Vice President of Enterprise Solutions at NVIDIA, added, “The launch of this lab in Abu Dhabi expands NVIDIA’s global AI network into robotics for the first time in the Middle East. It will help researchers and innovators accelerate breakthroughs that will shape the future of intelligent systems.”

The TII-NVAITC lab is not just about research; it also aims to create practical applications of AI and robotics. TII already has advanced robotic platforms, including robotic arms and autonomous delivery robots, which the lab will enhance using AI technologies. The collaboration will also promote open innovation by sharing research knowledge and participating in global AI and robotics initiatives.

This initiative comes at a time when AI and robotics are rapidly transforming industries worldwide, from healthcare and manufacturing to logistics and autonomous transportation. The joint lab in Abu Dhabi is expected to bring new opportunities for innovation, create highly skilled jobs in the technology sector, and strengthen the UAE’s global position in AI and robotics research.

With this new lab, Abu Dhabi is signaling its ambition to become a leader in intelligent machines and autonomous systems, providing the Middle East with a state-of-the-art platform for developing next-generation AI and robotics technologies.

This collaboration is also part of a larger trend where the UAE is investing heavily in technological advancements, international partnerships, and AI research programs, making it one of the most advanced countries in AI and robotics development in the region.

In the coming years, the lab is expected to produce groundbreaking AI models, advanced humanoid robots, and innovative robotic platforms that can be used across industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, logistics, and smart cities. The project represents a major step forward for both the UAE and the Middle East in shaping the future of AI-driven robotics.
