On Thursday morning, a serious train collision happened in the Czech Republic, injuring 57 individuals, with five in critical condition. The incident involved two passenger trains close to the city of Ceske Budejovice in the southern region.
The accident occurred around 6:20 am local time, roughly 74 miles south of Prague, involving an express train among the two. Fire and rescue teams sprang into action immediately, ensuring the safe evacuation of all passengers from both trains.
Hospitals in Ceske Budejovice have confirmed that five individuals are being treated for serious injuries, while the remaining passengers sustained only minor injuries and either received care on-site or were taken to local medical facilities.
Transport Minister Martin Kupka indicated that preliminary findings suggest one of the trains might have disregarded a stop signal, potentially causing the collision. An in-depth investigation is underway to ascertain the exact details.
Rail traffic between Ceske Budejovice and Plzen has been significantly disrupted following the incident. Officials reported that train services in this area would be halted until at least the afternoon as crews undertake clearing operations and restore service.
Local authorities and emergency services are actively collaborating to assist passengers while ongoing inquiries into the crash’s cause take place. Travelers in the affected areas are urged to stay updated before embarking on journeys.
