Thailand's Department of Rural Roads (DRR) is advancing a significant bridge construction initiative across Khlong Phra Phutth in Chanthaburi Province. This project aims to enhance transportation links between Pong Nam Ron District and Soi Dao District and foster local economic development and agricultural trade in the Eastern part of the country.
Official reports from the Ministry of Transport indicate that the bridge project is currently over 56 percent complete, with a target completion date set for February 2027. Upon its conclusion, the bridge will drastically decrease travel distances and times for both residents and transport vehicles.
Residents of Ban Khlong Khot and Ban Samrong Lang villages have long faced significant challenges, requiring lengthy detours exceeding 20 kilometers to cross between the two districts. This lack of direct access has led to delays, heightened fuel expenses, and complicated agricultural goods transport.
The newly planned bridge will stretch approximately 100 meters and will feature two traffic lanes, measuring 9 meters in width. Complementing this are enhancements to a 1,930-meter connecting road, which will include asphalt surfacing, safety barriers, road shoulders, and lighting systems to bolster safety for drivers and nearby communities.
Officials estimate that this project will cut travel time from nearly 30 minutes to just about 5 minutes. Additionally, the bridge will provide vital connections to major highways like Highway 3210 and Highway 3193, streamlining transportation throughout the province.
Chanthaburi is recognized as a central agricultural zone in Thailand, particularly known for its durian and longan fruit production. Authorities are optimistic that this improved infrastructure will enable farmers and traders to more swiftly and effectively distribute agricultural products to markets and export hubs.
The Ministry of Transport has emphasized that this initiative aligns with the government's strategy to enhance rural infrastructure, promote travel safety, and fortify local economies. The expectation is that these improved transport links will stimulate tourism, attract investment, and spur further development in nearby regions.
With a budget nearing 43 million baht, the bridge project is regarded as a pivotal advancement towards modernizing transportation systems in Eastern Thailand while enhancing the daily lives of thousands of local residents.
