Cadillac’s entry into Formula One for the 2026 season signifies a pivotal development in American motorsport history. Team CEO Dan Towriss emphasized that this move transcends mere racing, aiming to enhance the U.S. representation in global sports. He articulated that this endeavor aligns perfectly with the U.S. hosting significant global events such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Towriss expressed these insights during the Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend, highlighting that Formula One embodies “innovation on a grand scale.” With General Motors backing this initiative, the United States is poised to secure its foothold in elite motorsport. Cadillac strives to be “that American team” that resonates with fans nationwide.
Cadillac will officially join the Formula One grid as the 11th team in 2026, with confirmed drivers Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas, generating significant enthusiasm among fans in both the U.S. and Mexico. This lineup positions Cadillac as the second U.S.-flagged team in the series, following Haas.
Two principal operational bases will be established—one in Silverstone, England, and the other in Fishers, Indiana. This international setup is designed to facilitate efficient vehicle development and testing. Towriss remarked that there is a palpable sense of national pride surrounding the project, as fans express their desire for merchandise and share stories about their longstanding connection to Cadillac.
Furthermore, interest from sponsors is robust, particularly following the signing of Perez, which heightened engagement from U.S. and Mexican backers. Towriss noted that the market response has surpassed expectations, revealing a strong public desire for a new American-supported team in Formula One.
Nonetheless, entering the championship from scratch means starting from the back of the grid. Towriss candidly acknowledged this reality, stating, “Are we going to be last? Naturally, we might be last.” However, he emphasized the priority of improvement over the coming years.
Cadillac has set clear long-term aspirations, targeting podium finishes and race victories within five years after joining. Towriss asserted that it matters little whether the team operates with a Ferrari engine or a future Cadillac-engineered motor—consistent advancement is the primary objective.
Moreover, Towriss expressed enthusiasm for Formula One’s fresh U.S. broadcasting deal with Apple, envisioning collaborative promotions with American sports sectors like Major League Baseball and the NBA. This strategy aims to introduce Formula One to viewers more acquainted with traditional U.S. sports.
In conclusion, Towriss remarked that this entry into Formula One is merely the outset of a larger journey. Cadillac intends to evolve into a formidable team, symbolizing the United States on a worldwide platform. As Towriss articulated, “We didn’t strive to enter Formula One just to reach a destination; this is only the beginning.”
