Christopher Nolan is set to embark on a long-anticipated journey with his adaptation of Homer's epic, The Odyssey. This film has fascinated Nolan for over twenty years and will showcase his unique storytelling vision.
Initially, Warner Bros. approached Nolan to direct Troy when Wolfgang Petersen stepped back. “I was supposed to direct Troy, and once the studio shifted gears from Batman Vs Superman, Petersen wanted to resume,” Nolan shared.
He was particularly intrigued by the visuals associated with the Trojan horse. However, after Petersen returned, Nolan found himself directing Batman Begins. What he thought was a mere consolation turned into a revolutionary trilogy that altered the landscape of superhero films.
Petersen’s Troy, which hit theaters in 2004, featured notable actors like Brad Pitt and Diane Kruger, receiving mixed critical reception but grossing close to $500 million globally. On the flip side, Nolan’s Batman Begins became a landmark success for him and Warner Bros.
Now, with The Odyssey, featuring an impressive lineup including Matt Damon as Odysseus and Tom Holland as Telemachus alongside Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, and others, Nolan aims to lend “weight and credibility” to this saga on a grand scale.
Universal Pictures has slated the release of The Odyssey for July 17, 2026, ensuring a cinematic experience that marries epic storytelling with Nolan's distinctive visual flair.
