The San Francisco 49ers delivered an impressive victory at just the right moment, showcasing their playoff readiness with a comprehensive win against the Indianapolis Colts. Quarterback Brock Purdy had a career night, throwing five touchdown passes as San Francisco triumphed 48–27 on Monday, extending their winning run and fortifying their positioning in the NFC playoff race.
Purdy’s command was evident from the first drive, completing 25 of 34 passes for 295 yards. His remarkable precision kept the Colts' defense guessing throughout the contest, with San Francisco accumulating 440 total yards and astonishingly not punting for a second consecutive week.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan commended Purdy’s leadership, emphasizing that it was one of his standout performances. Though there were a couple of missed opportunities, Shanahan noted that Purdy's execution of the game plan demonstrated notable confidence and maturity.
With this win, the 49ers now hold an impressive 11–4 record, marking their fifth win in a row and intensifying their challenge for both the NFC West title and the top seed in the conference. Additionally, this victory ended a two-decade-long five-game losing streak against the Colts.
San Francisco's offensive versatility was significantly highlighted during the game. Christian McCaffrey rushed 21 times for 117 yards, contributed with six catches, and scored two touchdowns. Tight end George Kittle proved to be a persistent threat, securing seven receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown. Jauan Jennings and Demarcus Robinson also contributed offensively, showcasing Purdy's effective ball distribution.
Indianapolis began the game with promise under veteran quarterback Philip Rivers, who made his second start after a long absence. Rivers threw for 277 yards and two touchdowns to Alec Pierce, who ended up with 86 receiving yards. The Colts managed to keep themselves in contention at halftime, trailing 24–17 despite a missed 64-yard field goal attempt by Eddie Piñeiro that hit the crossbar as the clock expired.
However, San Francisco dominated the second half. Purdy ignited the third quarter with an effective touchdown drive, extending the 49ers’ lead significantly. Although Jonathan Taylor’s short run early in the fourth brought Indianapolis closer, San Francisco quickly answered with another touchdown by McCaffrey.
The game concluded emphatically when linebacker Dee Winters intercepted Rivers' last throw and ran it 74 yards for a touchdown, sealing the victory.
With this loss, the Colts fall to 8–7, suffering their fifth consecutive defeat, which complicates their playoff chances. The result also confirmed playoff spots for the Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC.
Purdy's five touchdown passes across his last two games highlight his exceptional form as the postseason approaches, supporting a 49ers offense that has scored in 23 consecutive quarters.
