Kriti Sanon recently starred opposite Dhanush in Aanand L. Rai’s romantic drama Tere Ishk Mein, which made its theatrical debut last month. The film garnered positive feedback, with strong acclaim for the performances of both leads. Kriti portrayed Mukti Beniwal, a character that ignited discussions among viewers.
During an interview, Kriti revealed that her initial impression of Mukti was less than favorable. After going through the script, she found the character to be overly negative and selfish. This discomfort led her to reach out to director Aanand L. Rai, expressing her reservations about playing such a role.
However, Kriti went on to explain that the director had a different vision for Mukti. He perceived her as a character rich in vulnerability and emotional depth that wasn't fully captured in the script. Through their discussions on various scenes, Kriti began to grasp the complexity of the character in a way that initially eluded her.
Interestingly, Kriti confessed that this was the first role she approached without the typical preparation. She came to discover the nuances of the character during the filming process and began to appreciate Mukti’s imperfections, finding it invigorating to portray someone emotionally nuanced.
Following the film's release, some viewers labeled Mukti as “toxic” or a “red flag.” Kriti responded to this by emphasizing the importance of such conversations, noting that human actions aren’t always black and white. She encouraged audiences to perceive characters with empathy rather than rigid labels.
