Arab League Issues Stern Warning Against Israeli Occupation and Settlements

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States has issued a strong warning regarding Israeli occupation practices, asserting that these actions significantly threaten regional security and stability. The League emphasized that such policies violate international law and hinder efforts to find a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian conflict.

Marking the 59th anniversary of the June 1967 War, the Arab League's statement highlights the ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip, alongside continuous settlement expansion and annexation efforts in the West Bank, as well as incursions into Lebanese and Syrian territories.

The Arab League underscored that genuine peace, security, and stability in the Middle East can only be attained through the cessation of Israeli occupation of Palestinian and other Arab lands seized since 1967. The organization reiterated its commitment to the formation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. This vision aligns with the two-state framework, international legitimacy resolutions, and the Arab Peace Initiative.

In its statement, the Arab League urged the global community to intensify their efforts and apply pressure on Israel to halt its military actions and what it deems illegal practices, primarily settlement activities in occupied regions.

The organization highlighted that ending the occupation and pursuing a political resolution are crucial steps necessary for establishing lasting peace and stability throughout the region.
