The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) has proudly achieved LEED Platinum Certification under the LEED v4.1 Operations and Maintenance (O+M) rating system, the pinnacle of recognition offered by the esteemed Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) programme.
This accomplishment signifies a critical step in ADPHC’s dedication to sustainability, underscoring its pledge to foster healthier, energy-efficient, and environmentally conscious spaces for staff and visitors. By embedding sustainable practices into its everyday operations, the centre sets a formidable standard for institutions throughout the Middle East.
During the certification journey, ADPHC undertook a detailed energy audit to evaluate building efficiency and pinpoint areas for enhancement. Numerous sustainability initiatives were carried out, including upgrades to HVAC systems, improved lighting, advanced waste management, utilization of certified sustainable materials, green cleaning practices, and superior indoor air quality standards.
These efforts yielded impressive outcomes, with energy consumption per capita decreasing by 36%, water usage falling by 42%, and recycling rates reaching 44%. Such milestones were instrumental in ADPHC attaining its esteemed LEED Platinum certification.
His Excellency Dr Rashed Alsuwaidi, Director General of ADPHC, remarked that this acknowledgment mirrors the organisation’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding both environmental and public health. He highlighted the crucial connection between environmental conditions and community well-being, stressing the need for leadership through sustainable practices.
Dr Alsuwaidi further mentioned that ADPHC’s sustainability efforts align with the UAE’s Net Zero goals and Abu Dhabi’s long-term vision for a more sustainable and resilient future.
In recent years, the centre has actively bolstered its sustainability agenda. In 2023, it released its inaugural Sustainability Report, detailing measurable progress in areas like carbon reduction, waste minimization, and resource efficiency.
The LEED Platinum certification reinforces ADPHC’s belief that environmental sustainability and public health are intertwined, with responsible environmental actions playing a vital role in enhancing community health and well-being.
