Bascom Palmer Eye Institute to Open in Abu Dhabi

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Abu Dhabi is taking another major leap in specialised healthcare with the arrival of the world’s leading eye hospital, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Recognised as the No. 1 eye hospital in the United States for 24 years by U.S. News & World Report, the institute is setting up its first-ever international facility in the UAE capital.

The new centre, expected to open in November 2025, marks a collaboration between the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), August Medical, and SOZA Group. It highlights the emirate’s growing appeal as a global destination for advanced medical care and innovation.

Located in Mohamed Bin Zayed City, the 70,000-square-foot facility will feature a distinctive gemstone-inspired architectural design — a tribute to precision and excellence in eye care. The ambulatory care centre will be equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic and surgical technologies, including 31 examination rooms, three operating theatres, and specialised laser and refractive suites.

Beyond treatment, the institute will also offer professional education and training opportunities, bringing Bascom Palmer’s decades of expertise closer to medical professionals and patients in the region. The centre will deliver comprehensive ophthalmic services — from treating retinal and corneal diseases to handling complex cases in glaucoma, ocular oncology, and paediatric ophthalmology.

This new facility strengthens Abu Dhabi’s vision of becoming a global healthcare hub that combines world-class expertise, modern infrastructure, and a commitment to accessible, high-quality care for all.
