Zelenskiy Says Next Round of US-Led Peace Talks May Be Delayed or Moved

Post by : Saif Nasser

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has said that the next round of peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, led by the United States, may not happen as planned. The meeting was earlier expected to take place in Abu Dhabi, but both the date and the location could now change.

Speaking to reporters in Kyiv, President Zelenskiy explained that there is uncertainty about when the next meeting will happen. He said Ukraine wants all key participants to be present at the talks because important decisions depend on full discussion and clear feedback from everyone involved.

These talks are part of ongoing efforts to find a way to end the war between Ukraine and Russia, which has caused widespread damage, loss of life, and hardship for millions of people. The United States has been acting as a mediator, trying to bring both sides together to explore possible steps toward peace.

However, recent developments have created new challenges. Zelenskiy pointed out that changing international conditions may affect the talks. In particular, he mentioned rising tensions involving the United States and Iran. According to him, these global issues could influence diplomatic schedules and make it difficult to hold the meeting as planned.

There is also uncertainty on the US side. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that two senior envoys who attended the previous round of talks will not be present at the upcoming meeting. This absence has raised questions about how effective the next discussions could be if key decision-makers are not in the room.

Zelenskiy stressed that Ukraine takes the peace process seriously and wants talks to be meaningful, not symbolic. He said it is better to delay or move a meeting than to hold one that cannot produce real progress. From Ukraine’s point of view, strong participation and clear communication are essential for any agreement to move forward.

The war between Ukraine and Russia has now lasted for years, reshaping global politics and affecting food supplies, energy prices, and security across many regions. While peace talks offer hope, they are often slow and complicated, especially when other international crises compete for attention.

For now, the future of the next round of US-brokered talks remains uncertain. What is clear is that Ukraine is watching global developments closely and wants any peace effort to be serious, inclusive, and focused on ending the conflict in a fair and lasting way.
