Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has unveiled plans for the 10th Zayed Charity Run, set for the 26th of December in Sheikh Zayed City, Giza. The event, held in collaboration with the Higher Organising Committee of the Zayed Charity Run, will direct its proceeds to the Egyptian Food Bank this year.
During a press briefing, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, highlighted the race as a beacon of humanitarian collaboration between Egypt and the UAE. He emphasized that the event underscores robust bilateral relations and illustrates how sports can generate significant social benefits. The ministry is making arrangements for substantial public attendance, ensuring the event pays tribute to the humanitarian legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Mohsen Sarhan Ali, CEO of the Egyptian Food Bank, remarked that their participation signifies a commitment to community welfare. The Food Bank not only provides food support but also backs initiatives to uplift vulnerable families and foster volunteerism.
Participants can expect a 10km competitive race, a 5km challenge for amateurs and People of Determination, and a 5km wheelchair race for professional athletes. The course will stretch from the Zayed 2000 entrance to ZED Park.
The Zayed Charity Run has shown consistent growth, with earlier events attracting significant numbers: 10,000 runners in Cairo in 2015 and 2016, and 10,000 in Luxor in 2017, escalating to 50,000 participants in 2024. This trend reflects an increasing public passion for merging charity with sports for a noble cause.
