UAE’s Healthcare System Lauded by WHO Official

Post by : Mara Rahim

During Abu Dhabi Finance Week, Hanan Balkhy, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, commended the UAE for establishing one of the globe's most sophisticated health systems. She noted that the UAE demonstrated remarkable agility and organization in tackling health challenges, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, where it excelled in epidemiological surveillance, rapid decision-making, and seamless coordination across public and private healthcare sectors. This teamwork ensured uninterrupted health services throughout the crisis.

Balkhy emphasized that the UAE serves as a model for other nations due to its provision of high-quality medical care and efficient healthcare services. She attributed this success to a robust infrastructure, cutting-edge technology, and a highly skilled workforce, reflecting the nation’s dedication to enhancing public health. According to her, a well-organized health system can effectively manage both emergencies and ongoing health demands.

Furthermore, she underscored the significance of participating in Abu Dhabi Finance Week, which facilitates connections between WHO and a variety of stakeholders, including donors and partners focused on global health initiatives. Balkhy highlighted that collaboration is critical for addressing major health challenges and supporting sustainable health developments.

She explained that contributors come from diverse backgrounds, including government entities, private companies, and international organizations. Their collaboration enhances research, bolsters healthcare systems, and lays the groundwork for lasting solutions within communities. Balkhy noted that the UAE’s experience exemplifies how innovation, cooperation, and dedication can cultivate a forward-thinking and resilient healthcare framework.
