More than two dozen Western countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Canada, and Poland, have issued a joint appeal urging Israel to reopen the medical corridor between Gaza and the West Bank. They stressed the importance of allowing patients to be evacuated for treatment as Gaza’s healthcare system continues to collapse under the weight of war and shortages.
Hospitals and clinics in Gaza are struggling with a severe lack of medicines, equipment, and staff. Many patients, including children and those with chronic illnesses, cannot access proper care. With movement heavily restricted, thousands of vulnerable people remain without life-saving treatment.
In their statement, the countries pledged financial support, the deployment of medical teams, and delivery of essential supplies. They emphasized the need to restore safe passage for patients through the West Bank and East Jerusalem, ensuring that urgent cases receive immediate attention.
One notable aspect of the appeal was the absence of the United States from the list of signatories. This omission has sparked discussion about Washington’s stance, as other Western allies continue to push for stronger humanitarian measures in the region.
The call comes amid repeated warnings from the World Health Organization and aid agencies about the deteriorating health conditions in Gaza. The international community is increasing pressure on Israel to ease restrictions, facilitate medical evacuations, and allow vital aid deliveries into the territory.
The joint push by Western nations highlights the urgency of the health crisis in Gaza. With hospitals running out of options, reopening the medical corridor could be a lifeline for thousands of patients. The move also underscores growing diplomatic tension as more countries demand action to prevent further humanitarian disaster.
