Sergio Gor Takes Office as New US Ambassador to India

Washington, D.C. — Sergio Gor has been formally inaugurated as the United States Ambassador to India, with the oath administered by Vice President J.D. Vance in the Oval Office on Monday. At just 38 years old, Gor is distinguished as Washington's youngest envoy to New Delhi in recent times, with the significant responsibility of strengthening a vital international partnership.

In a social media announcement, Gor expressed gratitude toward President Donald Trump, stating, “I am excited to serve as the new U.S. Ambassador to India. Thank you @POTUS @realDonaldTrump! I am sincerely appreciative of this opportunity and dedicated to upholding the trust you’ve placed in me.”

Welcoming him to his role, India’s Ambassador to the U.S., Vinay Mohan Kwatra, remarked, “Heartiest Congratulations @SergioGor on your swearing-in as the U.S. Ambassador to India. Wishing you great success as you embark on your mission in New Delhi.”

Gor’s appointment received Senate confirmation in October after being nominated by President Trump in August. Previously, Gor held the position of Director of Presidential Personnel and was designated as Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.

During the ceremony, President Trump emphasized the strategic significance of the US-India alliance. “I count on Sergio to help fortify one of our most significant international relationships, the strategic partnership with the Republic of India. With over 1.5 billion people, India is home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations,” he declared, labeling Gor as an “exceptional” representative of the United States.

In his confirmation hearing, Gor articulated India’s critical role as a strategic ally, underlining its influence on regional and global stability. He reaffirmed his dedication to promoting US interests in trade, security, and diplomatic relations, asserting that closer trade partnerships with India would boost American competitiveness while diminishing China’s economic dominance in the area.

Sergio Gor’s appointment signals a renewed commitment to enhancing diplomatic, economic, and strategic relationships between the United States and India, reflecting the increasing importance of this bilateral connection in the realm of global geopolitics.
