US Labels Delhi Blast as Terrorism, Rubio Commends Investigation Efforts

Post by : Raina Nasser

New Delhi – The US has designated the recent car explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi as terrorism. Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised India’s investigation efforts as “measured, cautious, and professional.” The incident, which resulted in at least nine fatalities, has raised serious national security alarms and increased vigilance across the capital.

In his media remarks, Rubio lauded India for its thorough management of the investigation. “India needs to be recognized for their professionalism. They’ve managed the probe with care and caution. This was unequivocally a terrorist act; a vehicle packed with explosives detonated, costing lives,” he remarked.

Rubio noted that while the United States has extended assistance, it also respects India’s capability to handle the investigation independently. “We stand ready to assist, but India is well-equipped to carry out their investigations effectively on their own,” he added.

Blast Details

The explosion took place close to the iconic Red Fort, marking the first significant terror-related incident since the April shooting in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. Authorities in India have traced the attack back to a gang linked with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist organization. Security forces have reportedly confiscated nearly 3,000 kilograms of explosives and various assault weapons during the ongoing investigation.

Home Minister Amit Shah assured the public that those responsible will be held accountable. “All involved will face the full force of our agencies,” he declared after conducting high-level security discussions.

Global Reaction and Diplomatic Talks

Rubio had a conversation with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on the margins of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Canada, expressing condolences for the lives lost while discussing bilateral relations and international security issues. He mentioned the potential wider ramifications of the incident but reaffirmed his trust in India's investigative capabilities.

Earlier this week, India officially categorized the occurrence as a “terrorist incident,” indicating that anti-national elements were responsible. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the larger network tied to the blast while security measures continue to be fortified in the capital.

The Delhi explosion again highlights the ongoing threat posed by terrorist organizations in the region, while India’s composed response has gained global acknowledgment, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to ensuring national security and effective law enforcement.
