US Approves Over $6.5 Billion in New Military Sales to Israel

Post by : Saif Nasser

The United States has approved more than 6.5 billion dollars in potential military sales to Israel, according to a statement from the Pentagon. The decision includes three separate deals covering advanced vehicles, attack helicopters, and other defense equipment.

The largest part of the package involves the sale of AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, valued at around 3.8 billion dollars. These helicopters are among the most advanced in the world and are designed for combat missions, surveillance, and close air support. They are widely used by the US military and its allies.

Another major deal includes Joint Light Tactical Vehicles, or JLTVs, along with related equipment. This sale is estimated at nearly 2 billion dollars. These vehicles are built to replace older military trucks and offer better protection against roadside bombs and other threats, while still being able to move quickly across rough terrain.

A third contract, worth about 740 million dollars, was also approved. While fewer details were shared about this deal, it adds to the overall scale of military support being offered to Israel.

The Pentagon said the main contractor for the tactical vehicles is AM General. The Apache helicopter deal will involve major US defense companies, including Boeing and Lockheed Martin. These companies play a key role in supplying advanced military equipment to US allies.

US officials say these sales are meant to support Israel’s security needs and help maintain stability in the region. Israel is one of the closest military partners of the United States and regularly receives US-made defense systems.

However, such arms deals often draw attention and debate, especially during times of conflict in the Middle East. Critics argue that large weapons sales can increase tensions, while supporters say they help allies defend themselves and deter threats.

It is important to note that approval does not always mean the equipment is delivered immediately. These are potential sales, and final agreements still depend on further steps, including contracts and timelines.

As regional tensions continue, the approval of this large military package highlights the strong defense relationship between Washington and Tel Aviv. The move is likely to be closely watched by both allies and critics around the world.
