US and Israel Near Agreement on Trump's Gaza Peace Plan

The United States and Israel are reportedly close to finalizing an agreement based on former President Donald Trump's proposed plan to end the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Axios reporter Barak Ravid cited discussions between U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Agreement Pending Hamas Approval

A senior U.S. official stated that while the agreement between the U.S. and Israel is nearly complete, it still requires Hamas's approval to proceed. President Trump expressed optimism about concluding a peace plan during an upcoming meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu. Reuters has not independently verified these reports.

Key Provisions of the Proposed Plan

The proposed 21-point plan includes provisions for the return of hostages, cessation of Israeli attacks on Qatar, and the initiation of renewed Israeli-Palestinian dialogue. Israeli and Arab leaders have responded positively to the plan, while Hamas claims it has not received the proposal and reiterated its refusal to disarm or expel its leaders.

Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

The Gaza war, which began in October 2023 following a Hamas-led attack, has caused significant casualties and displacement. Humanitarian agencies and Gaza's health services have reported that rescue operations are severely hindered, with Israel reportedly denying multiple international requests for access.

International Community Monitors Developments

The situation in Gaza remains fluid. The international community continues to monitor developments closely, hoping for a resolution that brings lasting peace to the region.
