UN Security Council Denounces Drone Assault on Barakah Nuclear Facility

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

On Tuesday, the United Nations Security Council issued a robust denunciation of the drone assault on the Barakah Nuclear Facility in the United Arab Emirates. The attack was termed a grave infringement of international law that jeopardized civilian lives, essential infrastructure, and environmental safety.

In its official remarks, the Security Council called for an immediate and unconditional cessation of all aggressive acts against civilians and civilian utilities in the UAE. The statement underscored that any threats or assaults on peaceful nuclear sites are intolerable and significant risks to both regional and global security.

The Council remarked that this incident undermines fundamental principles that uphold international peace and stability, stressing that those responsible, including entities acting via proxy networks, must be held accountable for their actions.

Additionally, the Security Council reaffirmed its commitment to the UAE's sovereignty, security, and overall regional stability.

Just last week, the UAE reported that six drones had been launched toward the country from Iraq. Authorities indicated that one of these drones sparked a fire at the Barakah facility, raising significant concerns regarding the safety of civilian nuclear establishments in the area.

The Barakah Nuclear Facility is integral to the UAE's energy strategy, playing a critical role in its peaceful nuclear energy initiative.
