Ukraine Peace Negotiators Arrive in US to Discuss War-End Proposal with Trump Officials

Post by : Saif Nasser

Ukraine has sent its top peace negotiators to the United States to discuss a proposed agreement aimed at ending the ongoing four-year war with Russia. The delegation arrived on Saturday to meet high-level U.S. officials, including White House envoy Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and U.S. Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll.

Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Ukrainian president’s office and former military intelligence chief, emphasized the importance of achieving “a just peace” for Ukraine. He stated on Telegram that the delegation is working to secure meaningful results that could help bring an end to the conflict.

President Trump has been actively urging both Kyiv and Moscow to reach a peace deal. Despite multiple rounds of negotiations, no final agreement has been reached, and fighting continues along a 1,200 km (750 miles) front line.

Ukraine and the U.S. have drafted a 20-point peace proposal. However, Russia has yet to respond. Key issues expected to dominate the discussions include territorial concessions, security guarantees, and the fate of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Europe’s largest, which is currently under Russian control.

Ukrainian officials said the agenda will also focus on security guarantees for Ukraine and a post-war reconstruction package. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has expressed hope that documents outlining “a prosperity package” can be signed with the U.S. during the World Economic Forum in Davos next week. This package is expected to unlock around $800 billion in investments to help rebuild the country.

The talks in the United States represent an important diplomatic step for Ukraine. While a peace deal remains uncertain, the discussions highlight Kyiv’s efforts to secure international support and ensure both safety and recovery for its citizens after years of conflict.

The coming days will be closely watched as Ukraine and the U.S. work to finalize agreements that could shape the future of Eastern Europe and influence global stability.
