The United Arab Emirates is making strides to solidify its presence in the global liquefied natural gas market. Energy Minister Suhail al-Mazrouei confirmed that the UAE's objective is to meet domestic gas requirements while simultaneously expanding LNG exports in the coming years.
During Abu Dhabi Financial Week, Mazrouei emphasized that the global demand for natural gas is on an upward trajectory, now surpassing the speed of new production and investment initiatives. The UAE is gearing up to increase its supply capabilities to satisfy national needs alongside future export potential.
His statements align with those made recently by Qatar Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi, who noted the steady growth in global demand, partly due to the expanding energy requirements of artificial intelligence and digital infrastructures. Qatar anticipates that LNG demand will hit 600–700 million tonnes annually by 2035.
The UAE’s proactive approach fits into larger regional development plans. In June, ADNOC’s international branch, XRG, announced its goal of establishing a gas and LNG portfolio with a capacity ranging from 20–25 million tonnes per year by 2035, thereby boosting its status among key global suppliers.
With ongoing projects and increasing long-term demand, the UAE is positioning itself to become a central player in the advancing global gas market.
