Drydocks World has achieved a pivotal milestone with the launch of its new 5,000-tonne floating crane ALNOKHADA, paving the way for the next development phase ahead of its planned delivery in Dubai in Q2 2026.
Constructed in partnership with ZPMC Offshore, the substantial crane barge has completed initial fabrication and is ready for the crucial outfitting phase, involving the installation and testing of essential systems before full commissioning begins in early 2026.
The name ALNOKHADA was chosen through a nationwide public competition that garnered over 3,000 entries. The winner, Kim Alfonso, is a qualified lifting equipment engineer from the Philippines, who has formerly worked with Drydocks World. The name, which originates from the Gulf Arabic term النوخذة (Al Nokhada), reflects the traditional dhow captain, symbolizing leadership, resilience, and the rich maritime heritage of the UAE.
Measuring 138.5 metres in length, with a 52-metre beam and 5.8-metre draft, ALNOKHADA is designed to tackle some of the region's toughest heavy-lift operations. It boasts a main hook with a remarkable 5,000-tonne lifting capacity, complemented by a 600-tonne auxiliary hook capable of reaching up to 180 metres. Once operational, this vessel will significantly enhance Drydocks World’s capability to support complex offshore, industrial, and energy projects more effectively and on a larger scale.
With ALNOKHADA now launched and advancing toward its final construction phase, this project represents a crucial step in bolstering the UAE's heavy-lift capabilities and expanding its role in regional maritime and industrial advancements.
