UAE Flag Raised in French Alps for Eid Al Etihad Celebration

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

In an inspirational act of national pride, the UAE flag was hoisted at a peak in the French Alps, accompanied by images of the revered Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. This exceptional feat was part of the ‘Our Flag at the Summit’ initiative, embodying the spirit of Emirati excellence and determination.

From Desert Dunes to Snowy Peaks

Aligned with the 54th Eid Al Etihad festivities, the expedition adopted the slogan ‘From Desert Dunes to Snowy Peaks,’ mirroring the UAE’s transformation from modest origins to global significance. This initiative stemmed from a partnership between Brand Dubai, a division of the Government of Dubai Media Office, and the UAE Skiers Academy, emphasizing community values and the importance of family in the Year of the Community.

In a historic partnership, the UAE Skiers Academy collaborated with a governmental entity for the first time in its 14-year tradition to accomplish this rigorous ascent. The team comprised a father and his sons, illustrating the strength of community bonds and shared national pride.

Rigorous Training for a Peak Achievement

Ten of the UAE’s elite skiers underwent extensive training to acclimatize to the challenging Alpine environment. Their journey commenced in Dubai, followed by a long flight to Geneva and a 220-kilometre drive to the Valtourance resort, traversing twisting mountain roads and steep climbs. Faced with temperatures ranging from -3°C to -9°C, they successfully reached the summit positioned over 3,300 metres high.

Atop the peak, they displayed a 3x1-meter portrait of Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid along with the UAE flag. The national anthem reverberated across the snow-covered landscape, and the climbers immortalized this moment with photographs symbolizing pride, loyalty, and the UAE’s aspirations on the world stage.

Inspiring Patriotism and Humanitarian Spirit

Initiated 14 years ago, the ‘Our Flag at the Summit’ project seeks to motivate young Emiratis to excel in various fields while promoting national values through sports and humanitarian endeavors. By placing the UAE flag on distinguished peaks globally, the initiative reinforces the country's commitment to leadership, innovation, and benevolence.

The expedition in the French Alps symbolizes the UAE’s steadfast dedication to national pride, unity, and ambition—demonstrating that Emiratis are prepared to tackle challenges while promoting their country’s values on international platforms.
