UAE Pavilion Secures Silver at 2025 Osaka Expo's DFA Awards

Post by : Mara Rahim

At the recently held Expo 2025 Osaka, the UAE Pavilion was honoured with the Silver Award at the DFA Design for Asia Awards, a prestigious event organized by the Hong Kong Design Centre. This accolade spotlights exceptional designs across the Asian continent that reflect cultural ingenuity and substantial social influence. The recognition underscores the pavilion’s international acclaim and its impactful architectural style.

Throughout the six-month Expo duration, the UAE Pavilion presented a fascinating fusion of design, artistry, and narrative. Its concept draws inspiration from the UAE’s iconic date palm tree and mirrors traditional Emirati areesh structures. The pavilion ingeniously integrates date palm agricultural residue with sophisticated Japanese woodworking techniques, showcasing a beautiful harmony between Emirati and Japanese craftsmanship.

A standout feature of the pavilion is its stunning forest of 90 rachis columns, some reaching up to 16 meters in height. Crafted by the Earth to Ether Design Collective, a collaboration of Emirati and Japanese designers, this element exemplifies the UAE’s dedication to cultural collaboration and global innovation, highlighting the pavilion as a beacon of creative unity.

Shihab Al Faheem, the UAE Ambassador to Japan and the Commissioner General of the UAE Pavilion, stated that this award embodies the exceptional teamwork among partners from the UAE, Japan, and other nations. He emphasized that the pavilion communicates the UAE’s identity and its aspirational future grounded in openness and shared growth. Al Faheem also remarked that over five million visitors voted the pavilion as a favourite destination during Expo 2025 Osaka, drawn to its immersive experience and poignant storytelling that bridges cultural divides.
