UAE Applauds EU’s Pledge to Resolve Sudanese Conflict

Post by : Mara Rahim

Lana Nusseibeh, Minister of State and Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the European Union, has praised the European Parliament for its strong endorsement of efforts to conclude the ongoing civil war in Sudan. She reaffirmed the UAE's ongoing commitment to collaborating with international and regional partners to bring an end to this tragic conflict. The UAE aims to help restore security, stability, and long-term development for the Sudanese people.

In her remarks, Nusseibeh underlined that the European Parliament’s resolution has formally acknowledged the role of the Quad as the central mediation entity addressing the Sudan crisis. This acknowledgment reinforces the Quad's position as the key diplomatic platform uniting global stakeholders involved in efforts to terminate the conflict. She noted that this backing enhances the ongoing peace initiatives and intensifies international pressure on the opposing factions.

Nusseibeh described the Quad Joint Statement as a pivotal moment in the fight against the hostilities. The outlined roadmap features definitive steps that commence with a humanitarian ceasefire, followed by the establishment of a civilian-led government free from the influence of the combatants. She insisted that extremist factions, particularly those affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, should not dictate Sudan's future, as they pose serious threats to peace and stability. She emphasized that only a civilian administration can transform Sudan’s institutions and mitigate extremism within the political framework.

Nusseibeh condemned the severe abuses inflicted by both the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Port Sudan Authority. She remarked that such violent actions have resulted in significant suffering for civilians and jeopardized Sudan's prospects for recovery. She called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urged all involved parties to halt their violent actions without delay.

The UAE’s stance remains steadfast and unequivocal: an immediate, unconditional ceasefire is imperative in Sudan, along with full and unrestricted humanitarian access throughout the nation. Nusseibeh reiterated that the UAE's initiatives are driven by a humanitarian-centric approach. Helping the Sudanese population is a long-standing priority for the UAE, which pledges to facilitate aid delivery through all feasible channels.

A report from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) highlights the UAE’s notable contributions to Sudan. Since the onset of the conflict, the UAE has provided USD 784 million in humanitarian assistance, making it the second-largest donor after the United States and the top contributor for 2025. This aid reflects the UAE's commitment to alleviating the difficulties faced by the Sudanese population and supporting relief efforts during this critical crisis.

Nusseibeh's statement emphasizes the UAE’s conviction in the necessity of global cooperation to resolve the Sudanese conflict. With the European Parliament endorsing mediation initiatives and the Quad proposing a viable roadmap, there is a revitalized optimism for resolution. The UAE continues to stand alongside the Sudanese people, advocating for peace, stability, and humanitarian assistance across all fronts.
