DP World Enhances Services at Abuja’s Eye Hospital

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

DP World has revealed a significant investment of US$500,000 toward the expansion of the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation (TCF) Eye Hospital in Abuja, Nigeria. This funding elevates the total financial support for the facility to US$1.5 million since the partnership began in 2019.

The collaboration aims to combat avoidable blindness and enhance access to quality eye care for marginalized communities across Nigeria. This effort is part of TCF’s “Mission for Vision” initiative, which provides affordable and high-quality eye care services.

Located in Kukwaba, Abuja, the TCF Eye Hospital offers essential procedures, including cataract surgeries, glaucoma treatments, pediatric eye care, and community outreach endeavors. Employing a cross-subsidy model, the facility enables paying patients to subsidize free treatments for those unable to afford care.

Since commencing its operations, the partnership has achieved significant outcomes, with approximately 60,000 eye surgeries performed at the Abuja facility. Notably, about 63% of these surgeries have been provided without cost. The hospital also conducts outreach missions within a 100-kilometre radius of Abuja, offering complimentary screening, transportation, surgical procedures, medications, and post-operative care.

The recent funding will allow the hospital to increase its bed capacity from 82 to 160. Plans for a training institute are also underway, aimed at cultivating local eye care professionals and enhancing the healthcare infrastructure in Nigeria.

DP World emphasizes that this initiative reflects its commitment to generating lasting social benefits in the regions where it operates. In addition to its health initiatives, DP World also engages in logistics and freight services, playing a crucial role in Nigeria’s economic landscape.
