Strengthening UAE-Angola Relations: A High-Level Meeting

Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State for the UAE, engaged with João Manuel Lourenço, President of Angola, during an official visit in Luanda. This meeting underscored both nations' commitment to enhancing cooperation across various fields of mutual interest, showcasing the UAE's dedication to fostering stronger ties with African countries, particularly with Angola as a pivotal regional partner.

During their discussions, Sheikh Shakhboot conveyed heartfelt greetings from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. They offered sincere wishes for ongoing progress and prosperity to the Angolan government and its people.

In reciprocation, President Lourenço sent greetings to the UAE leaders, expressing appreciation for the robust relationship shared between the two nations, while extending his hopes for the UAE's further development and stability. This exchange demonstrated the mutual respect and camaraderie present between the UAE and Angola.

President Lourenço received Sheikh Shakhboot warmly, acknowledging the UAE's continued engagement efforts with Angola. Both parties held fruitful conversations on bolstering bilateral ties in areas like investment, trade, energy, development cooperation, and cultural exchange, recognizing numerous opportunities for partnership beneficial to their populations.

Sheikh Shakhboot emphasized the UAE’s eagerness to closely collaborate with Angola, particularly in supporting economic diversification and sustainable development. He reiterated the UAE’s commitment to establishing balanced, mutually beneficial relationships with African nations, with Angola being a significant part of this initiative.

Besides bilateral discussions, they tackled pressing regional matters affecting Africa, particularly the emerging crisis in Sudan. Sheikh Shakhboot lauded Angola’s proactive role in fostering peace and stability throughout Africa during its presidency of the African Union, highlighting its efforts in advocating for dialogue and diplomatic resolutions to continental conflicts.

The discussions reaffirmed the essential collaboration needed to promote peace, security, and development both in Africa and beyond. They recognized that peaceful resolutions, humanitarian assistance, and regional partnerships are critical to addressing ongoing challenges.

Addressing urgent concerns, Sheikh Shakhboot and President Lourenço condemned violations against civilians and humanitarian workers in conflict zones, emphasizing the immediate cessation of such actions. They advocated for a ceasefire in Sudan and other affected regions, alongside ensuring unimpeded humanitarian aid delivery, underscoring the urgency for accountability and justice for crimes against civilians. Both leaders reaffirmed their belief that sustainable peace hinges upon respect for human rights and meeting humanitarian needs.

Concluding the meeting, both parties committed to further fostering the UAE-Angola partnership, agreeing to maintain ongoing communication and investigate new cooperation opportunities in the near future. This visit reflected the UAE’s strategic intent to cultivate robust, collaborative relationships with African nations, reinforcing peace, security, and prosperity across the continent.
