In response to the catastrophic floods and landslides affecting Ditwah, the UAE has dispatched its seventh humanitarian relief aircraft to Sri Lanka. This batch includes crucial food, shelter supplies, and other essential materials, bringing the total aid delivered to an impressive 89 tonnes.
A comprehensive emergency team has been deployed by the UAE on-site, consisting of members from Joint Operations Command, the UAE Aid Agency, Emirates Red Crescent Authority, and the UAE Search & Rescue Team, operating under the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority. These teams are working in unison to assist families in distress and stabilize the severely impacted areas.
Rescue efforts are in full swing. Within their assigned operational areas, the UAE Search & Rescue Team has tragically recovered 18 bodies of flood victims and provided immediate medical support to eight individuals who were injured or displaced due to the calamity. The expansion of these relief operations underscores the urgent need for assistance as the flooding wreaks havoc on daily life, damages homes, and obstructs access to vital services.
With the possibility of additional flights on standby, the UAE’s continued missions aim to guarantee that food, shelter, and medical help reach families grappling with the repercussions of one of the region’s most severe weather incidents this season.
