U.S. President Donald Trump is getting new rides both on the road and in the air, as American security agencies continue to modernize how the president travels and stays protected.
During this week’s World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Trump was seen traveling in newly delivered Cadillac SUVs. The U.S. Secret Service later confirmed that the vehicles have officially joined its protective fleet. While the agency did not give full technical details, the SUVs appear to be heavily modified Cadillac Escalades designed for high-level security missions.
Secret Service Director Sean Curran said the agency was pleased to continue its long partnership with General Motors. He explained that the new vehicles are part of ongoing efforts to upgrade protection systems for the president while maintaining reliability and safety.
Presidents often use armored sport utility vehicles when moving short distances or traveling outside the White House. In the past, Trump and other presidents commonly rode in armored Chevrolet Suburbans when the famous presidential limousine, known as “The Beast,” was not required.
The move toward Cadillac SUVs follows earlier discussions between Trump and General Motors leadership. In March, Trump met GM Chief Executive Mary Barra and raised the idea of adding Cadillac vehicles to the presidential motorcade. Soon after, Secret Service officials visited a GM facility in Michigan to review future armored vehicle designs.
At the same time, work continues on the next-generation presidential limousine. In 2024, the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service awarded General Motors a major contract to develop a new version of “The Beast.” The project could cost more than $40 million by 2029 and is meant to provide even stronger protection and updated technology.
Trump is also seeing changes in the air. During his trip to Davos, he was briefly switched from a Boeing 747 to a smaller Boeing 757 after a minor electrical issue. The U.S. Air Force later confirmed that plans are moving forward to provide Trump with a new aircraft by summer 2026.
Until new planes are ready, Trump is using a luxury Boeing 747 that was previously owned by the government of Qatar. The aircraft, which is about 13 years old, has a high-end interior and is being modified to meet strict U.S. security standards. The retrofit is expected to cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
The long-delayed replacement for the current Air Force One fleet has faced repeated setbacks. Boeing’s delivery of two brand-new Air Force One aircraft has now been pushed back to at least mid-2028, adding to frustration within the Air Force and the White House.
Despite these delays, officials say they are working closely to ensure the president’s safety and comfort, whether on the ground or in the sky. The arrival of new Cadillac SUVs and progress on aircraft upgrades signal that, even amid delays, the U.S. is continuing efforts to modernize presidential transportation for the years ahead.
