Post by : Shakul

In a harrowing incident near Jakarta, a train crash has claimed at least 14 lives and left 84 others injured, marking a significant railway disaster in the region. The collision occurred late Monday in Bekasi, involving a local commuter train and a long-distance service.

Officials from PT KAI have reported a rising death toll as rescue teams continue their operations. Emergency services are diligently working at the scene to extract passengers trapped within the wrecked train cars.

Rescuers have faced daunting obstacles due to the extensive damage; specialized teams have been deployed to cut through the wreckage using heavy machinery. Authorities indicate that some individuals may still be alive and trapped, maintaining hopes of finding more survivors.

Preliminary investigations suggest the commuter train initially collided with a taxi on the tracks before being struck by the long-distance train. The severity of the impact was such that a female-only carriage suffered significant destruction.

Indonesia's search and rescue agency has emphasized caution during the operation to prevent further injuries. Families of the passengers have gathered at the site and hospitals, anxiously awaiting news about their loved ones, leading to emotional scenes of distress.

President Prabowo Subianto visited the injured and promised a comprehensive inquiry into the tragedy. He additionally announced plans for a flyover in the vicinity to alleviate traffic congestion and deter similar events in the future.

The National Transportation Safety Committee is currently investigating to ascertain the precise cause of the crash. Railway safety remains a critical issue in Indonesia, where infrastructure challenges and high traffic volumes continue to threaten public safety.
