Shell to Acquire ARC Resources in $16.4B Strategic Move in Canada

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Shell plc has signed a definitive agreement to acquire ARC Resources Ltd., completing a significant $16.4 billion deal. This acquisition is a critical component of Shell's strategy to diversify its energy offerings and solidify its presence in the North American market.

ARC Resources stands as a major operator within the Montney shale basin, a vital energy hub in Canada, spanning British Columbia and Alberta. Shell's acquisition will lead to an immediate production gain of approximately 370 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (kboe/d), including both natural gas and liquids.

The agreement is poised to enhance Shell's production trajectory with an anticipated growth rate of around 4% annually through 2030, benchmarked against 2025. This aligns with Shell's objective of boosting its overall output while ensuring a balanced energy profile.

The acquisition is expected to significantly increase Shell's access to sustainable, long-term, low-cost resources with reduced carbon emissions. The Montney basin is recognized for its efficient production processes and lower environmental impact, making it a valuable asset as the industry transitions to greener operational practices.

Shell projects that this acquisition will provide enduring value, promoting consistent production and reinforcing its global energy strategies for the future.
