Tabung Haji Advises Pilgrims to Minimize Social Media Engagement

Post by : Shakul

Tabung Haji has issued guidance to Malaysian Haj pilgrims, urging them to concentrate on their spiritual duties and limit social media usage while in the Holy Sites. This reminder arrives as many pilgrims converge in Mecca and Madinah for the significant annual pilgrimage.

Officials have observed that while capturing and sharing moments online has become a trend, excessive screen time can divert attention from the essential purpose of Haj. This pilgrimage stands as one of the core acts of worship in Islam, necessitating complete focus and devotion.

Haj Guidance Operations director Shahrin Awaluddin emphasized the importance of not letting digital distractions interfere with crucial rituals. He noted that Haj transcends a mere physical journey, being a profoundly spiritual endeavor that requires genuine intent and unwavering commitment.

He clarified that while social media isn’t prohibited, its overconsumption could lead to missed opportunities for significant activities, such as tawaf around the Kaaba, sa’i between Safa and Marwah, and particularly wuquf at Arafah, which is pivotal in the pilgrimage experience.

Simultaneously, Tabung Haji reassured that the well-being of Malaysian pilgrims is being attentively monitored during their stay. Authorities have established provisions for accommodation, transportation, healthcare, and religious guidance to facilitate smooth performance of rituals.

Officials also pointed out the availability of support teams ready to assist any pilgrims with health concerns or challenges, ensuring that those who may become ill receive adequate care while continuing their pilgrimage.

The 2026 Haj operations commenced on April 18, with approximately 31,600 Malaysian pilgrims departing in a phased manner to Saudi Arabia. Authorities have urged pilgrims and their families to maintain tranquility and focus, reinforcing that the essence of this journey lies in spiritual fulfillment rather than social media distractions.
