On Monday, Microsoft Outlook users experienced significant login issues due to a widespread outage that hindered account access across various regions. The problems predominantly impacted business and enterprise customers utilizing Microsoft 365 for essential communication.
Microsoft attributed the disruption to a recent system update that unexpectedly triggered sign-in failures. Users encountered error notifications such as “too many requests” and faced repeated logouts, complicating their ability to check emails. Reports of these login challenges surged early in the day, coinciding with the typical start of the workday.
Data from DownDetector indicated a remarkable increase in logged complaints, with login difficulties described as the primary concern. Users expressed their frustration on social media platforms, highlighting inadequate communication from Microsoft during the disruption.
In response, Microsoft initially attempted to resolve the issues by reverting the recent system update. However, it later became clear that this rollback did not fully rectify the login problems. Engineers are actively assessing the situation and implementing additional solutions.
By the afternoon, Microsoft announced gradual improvements in service functionality following further configuration updates. Nonetheless, many users—particularly those with iPhones—continued facing access difficulties. The company recommended that these users manually re-enter their account details in device settings.
The outage occurred alongside separate challenges with Microsoft’s AI feature, Copilot, although Microsoft has not linked the two issues.
While many functionalities have been restored, this event underscores the significant impact of technical disruptions on millions who rely on cloud services for both work and communication. Microsoft has assured users that it will keep monitoring the situation to ensure a complete recovery and to mitigate the chances of similar disruptions occurring in the future.
