Tragic Train Disaster in Spain Leaves Only One Survivor

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

In a devastating train accident in southern Spain, a six-year-old girl was discovered wandering alone along the railway tracks late Sunday night. The incident resulted in the loss of her parents, brother, and cousin.

The girl, whose identity remains undisclosed, sustained only a minor head injury. Reports indicate that the family was returning to Aljaraque, close to Huelva, after a holiday in Madrid, where they enjoyed the musical The Lion King and visited Real Madrid’s iconic Bernabeu Stadium, according to local broadcaster Canal Sur.

Al Adrian Cano, the mayor of Aljaraque, referred to her survival as “a miracle” and expressed the town's profound sorrow and struggle for comfort amidst the tragedy.

Following the crash, the little girl was taken care of through the night by a police officer until she could be reunited with her grandmother in Cordoba, officials stated.

Her survival story is among many emerging from one of Europe's most catastrophic train accidents, as families look for missing relatives via social media and local news outlets.

In another devastating account, a pregnant woman remains in critical condition. Alberto Garcia shared with Antena 3 that his daughter, five months pregnant, has suffered severe injuries and is currently on a ventilator. Doctors are closely monitoring the unborn child, which still shows signs of life.

Firefighters rescued her from the wreckage, after courageous passengers broke windows to escape. Her sister, Ana, who was with her and their dog, sustained minor injuries, while their dog, Boro, is still unaccounted for. Ana believes her sister was hurt trying to protect their pet.

Spain's government has announced three days of national mourning as high-speed rail services between Madrid and Andalusia remain halted while investigations proceed.

Local resident Julio Rodriguez, aged 16, assisted in rescuing victims after passing the site during a fishing trip. He received appreciation from King Felipe during a visit to the area.

Authorities report that 47 individuals are still unaccounted for, with only 10 victims having been officially identified as of now.

Families continue their quest for clarity, including relatives of cardiologist Jesus Saldana, who remains absent from the list of injured or deceased. Although his mobile phone was retrieved, there are still no updates regarding his status.
