Toronto Police Announce $25K Reward for Fairview Mall Shooting Suspect

Post by : Shweta

In a recent announcement, Toronto police revealed they are offering a substantial reward of up to $25,000 related to the Fairview Mall shooting. This comes as investigators intensify their search for a suspect connected to a series of violent crimes, raising significant public safety concerns.

The suspect, identified as Kyle Douglas Prouse, 53, is wanted for a robbery incident that occurred on April 21. He reportedly entered the mall shortly after its doors opened, aiming to rob a jewelry store. A confrontation ensued, resulting in a security guard being shot.

Following the incident, Prouse fled the scene in a white van, which was later abandoned, before transferring to a black sedan to evade capture. Law enforcement officials believe this shooting is part of a more extensive criminal activity pattern.

Prouse is suspected of being involved in at least six robberies and break-ins since the beginning of 2023, targeting various banks and jewelry stores throughout Ontario and Quebec. Authorities deem his behavior increasingly aggressive, making his apprehension a crucial objective.

At a recent press briefing, police warned that the public could be at significant risk due to the suspect's erratic actions. Surveillance images and videos have been released to help in identifying and locating him, and officials strongly encourage anyone with information to step forward.

The reward offered through Crime Stoppers will be active until June 30, 2026. Authorities remind the public that anyone helping the suspect avoid capture might face criminal repercussions.

Officials have advised against approaching the suspect if encountered, recommending immediate contact with emergency services instead. They have urged Prouse to surrender, indicating that it would be the safest choice for him.

The shooting has resonated deeply within the local community, emphasizing ongoing concerns regarding safety in public areas. Investigations are progressing swiftly as efforts to apprehend the suspect continue unabated, ensuring community security.
