89-Year-Old Suspect Wanted After Athens Shooting Spree

89-Year-Old Suspect Wanted After Athens Shooting Spree

Post by : Shweta

A disturbing shooting event has unfolded in central Athens, injuring several individuals, as police hunt for a suspect they believe to be an elderly man. The gunman reportedly opened fire at two distinct locations on Tuesday, instigating widespread panic and significant security measures throughout the area.

Initial reports indicate that the suspect targeted a social security office, unleashing a shotgun and injuring an employee. Emergency services swiftly arrived to administer first aid, transporting the victim to a nearby hospital. Following the incident, the suspect absconded before law enforcement could intervene.

Authorities later confirmed the same man was also connected to a secondary shooting event at a courthouse in a different section of Athens. This attack resulted in multiple injuries, with footage capturing emergency crews hurriedly relocating victims to ambulances in front of the building.

Law enforcement has recovered the weapon suspected to have been used in these incidents and has initiated an extensive manhunt. Although Greek media speculate the suspect is 89 years old, officials have not yet disclosed his full identity.

Investigators continue to probe the motive behind these shootings. Reports suggest that the suspect might have scattered documents at the courthouse scene, potentially as a means to elucidate his actions, but this has not been officially confirmed.

Representatives from the national social security authority, EFKA, revealed that the assailant entered their building, ascended to an upper floor, and opened fire after directing one employee to step aside. Another employee suffered a leg injury during the ordeal.

Gun violence is a rare occurrence in Greece, where stringent regulations govern firearm ownership. This incident has sparked renewed worries regarding public safety, particularly considering the suspect’s unusual profile.

Police continue to conduct operations as efforts to locate and detain the gunman are underway. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any pertinent information that could aid in the investigation.
