Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, makes his much-awaited debut as a creator, writer, and director with Netflix’s The Bastards of Bollywood. Produced under Gauri Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, the seven-episode series released on September 18, 2025, promises a mix of glamour, drama, and biting satire on the film industry’s inner workings.
The series follows Aasmaan Singh (played by Lakshya), a newcomer from Delhi who dreams of making it big in Mumbai. His rise to stardom begins smoothly, but soon, the darker side of the industry takes over.
Rising Star – Aasmaan’s debut film is a blockbuster, landing him a strict three-film contract with producer Freddy Sodawallah (Manish Chaudhari).
Love & Rivalry – He is paired with Karishma Talvar (Sahher Bambba), daughter of superstar Ajay Talvar (Bobby Deol). Sparks fly, but so does competition.
Father Figure or Foe? – Ajay’s influence casts a shadow over Aasmaan’s personal and professional life.
The Big Twist – A jaw-dropping revelation changes everything: Ajay Talvar is Aasmaan’s biological father.
Forbidden Romance – This makes Aasmaan and Karishma half-siblings, turning their romance into a shocking dilemma.
Industry Politics – Freddy and other power brokers exploit the situation, forcing Ajay and his estranged wife Neeta into producing a mega film starring Aasmaan and Karishma — marketed as “India’s biggest family drama.”
The show balances melodrama with satire, creating a narrative that mirrors Bollywood while also mocking its clichés.
The Bastards of Bollywood goes beyond entertainment by weaving in layered commentary on:
Nepotism vs Outsiders – The challenges faced by outsiders against star kids with built-in advantages.
Image vs Reality – How stars project perfection publicly while battling chaos privately.
Family Secrets – Hidden parentage and broken families drive the emotional tension.
Power Politics – Producers and financiers controlling careers and destinies.
Meta-Satire – The series cleverly pokes fun at Bollywood tropes while indulging in them, making it both parody and drama.
Shocking Twists – The fatherhood reveal adds genuine shock value.
Performances – Lakshya as Aasmaan, Sahher Bambba as Karishma, and Bobby Deol as Ajay deliver strong, memorable performances.
Humor & Satire – Witty jabs at Bollywood stereotypes provide comic relief.
High Glamour – Lavish sets, stylish visuals, and cameo appearances add sparkle.
Surface-Level Satire – The critique doesn’t always dive deep.
Predictable Tropes – Family secrets and industry politics are not entirely new.
Pacing Issues – Some subplots stretch too long, slowing the momentum.
Viewed from a structural lens, the show’s storytelling resembles a well-designed system:
Architecture & Flow: Each episode builds on setup, conflict, and revelation, though extra subplots sometimes create noise.
Character Arcs: Aasmaan’s journey is the core, while Karishma and Ajay act as crucial secondary drivers.
Engagement Hooks: Cliffhangers and twists act as retention tools for binge-watchers.
Meta Layer: The show critiques Bollywood while embracing its masala formula — a recursive satire.
The Bastards of Bollywood is a bold debut by Aryan Khan, mixing satire, glamour, and shocking twists into a binge-worthy series.
For Bollywood lovers who enjoy drama, industry politics, and high-stakes revelations, the show is a thrilling watch.
For viewers expecting deep, groundbreaking commentary, the satire may feel surface-level and familiar.
Still, Aryan Khan deserves credit for delivering a daring, self-aware series that balances entertainment with critique. With its mix of scandal, humor, and spectacle, The Bastards of Bollywood marks a promising start for Aryan Khan’s career as a storyteller.
