Thailand is advancing its Digital Government Development Plan for 2027-2032, intending to enhance the accessibility, security, and convenience of public services for citizens, businesses, and foreign residents.
The inaugural meeting of the Digital Government Development Committee for 2026 convened at Government House, Bangkok, led by Minister Paradorn Prisnanantakul, alongside Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaiyanok Chidchob and representatives from several government sectors.
Officials expressed that the planned framework will modernize Thailand's public services in the digital age. The vision is to craft a digital governance system that is more accessible and trustworthy for citizens nationwide.
The strategy revolves around five primary objectives: enhancing digital government services, integrating government databases, advancing digital infrastructure, encouraging the utilization of AI, and bolstering the digital skills of government staff.
A notable aspect of this initiative is the introduction of a “Single Portal” system, enabling residents to engage with multiple governmental services through a single digital interface. This will utilize a Digital ID platform, facilitating services like e-Signature, Document Wallet, and a National Payment Platform.
Authorities anticipate that this system will minimize paperwork, streamline online transactions, and accelerate the efficiency of government services. There are also plans to increase the application of AI technology in public service provision, internal administration, and policy assessment, thereby enhancing transparency and decision-making.
The meeting also emphasized improving data sharing across government bodies via the Government Data Exchange Center under the Federated Data Exchange framework. Officials indicated that this initiative aims to lessen the burden on citizens who often have to resubmit documents while fostering better inter-departmental coordination.
Thailand aspires to align its digital transformation strategies with the United Nations e-Government Development Index standards. Relevant agencies are tasked with drafting detailed implementation plans ahead of the upcoming committee meeting.
