Suqia UAE Provides Safe Drinking Water to Over 1 Million in Tanzania

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

The UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE) has announced a significant humanitarian milestone: its water initiatives in Tanzania have now furnished safe drinking water to over 1,024,000 people across remote and rural communities.

The work was made possible through a substantial grant from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, enabling projects that are transforming local access to potable water.

Implemented in partnership with the Emirates Red Crescent, the programme has combined new artesian well construction with the rehabilitation and upkeep of existing wells to establish reliable, long-term water supplies for thousands of households.

The disclosure was made at Suqia UAE’s third Board of Trustees meeting of 2025, presided over by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Attendees included representatives from DEWA, Khalifa University, UAE University and other strategic partners who support the foundation’s objectives.

Board members also reviewed preparations for the fifth cycle of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award, planned for the final quarter of the year. The USD 1 million prize pool will honour innovations that produce or purify water using renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and hydro technologies.

Since its launch in 2015, Suqia UAE has delivered sustainable water projects across 37 countries, reaching an estimated 15 million beneficiaries — a reflection of the UAE’s continued investment in long‑term solutions to global water scarcity.
