Stands at New Chandigarh Stadium Named After Harmanpreet Kaur and Yuvraj Singh

Post by : Mara Rahim

At the New Chandigarh Stadium, a ceremony honoured the outstanding contributions of India women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur and former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, with stands named in their respect. This event coincided with the second men’s T20I match between India and South Africa, and was attended by both legends alongside family members, teammates, and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Prior to the match, Yuvraj inspired the Indian team with a motivating talk.

Retiring from international cricket in 2019, Yuvraj Singh debuted in 2000, playing 40 Tests, 304 ODIs, and 58 T20Is. His contributions were pivotal in India’s inaugural T20 World Cup victory in 2007 and again during the 2011 ODI World Cup, where he was recognised as Player of the Series with 362 runs and 15 wickets.

Harmanpreet Kaur, who captained India to its first-ever Women’s World Cup victory in November 2025, has been a crucial figure in the team since her debut in 2009. With six Tests, 161 ODIs, and 182 T20Is under her belt, she has accumulated 4409 runs in ODIs and 3654 runs in T20Is.

This inauguration acknowledges their significant impact on Indian cricket, continuing to motivate young athletes across the nation.

The event underscored the vital roles both players have played in the annals of cricket, showcasing their enduring influence both on and off the pitch.

This tribute is a significant addition to the New Chandigarh Stadium, offering cricket enthusiasts a special place to celebrate the legacies of these sporting icons.
