On June 3, 2025, Elon Musk shared some big news. He said that SpaceX, the space company he founded, is expected to make around $15.5 billion in revenue next year. What’s even more surprising is that SpaceX’s money from space missions alone might be more than NASA’s entire budget in 2025.

Musk made this announcement through a post on X (formerly Twitter). In his words: “SpaceX commercial revenue from space will exceed the entire budget of NASA next year.”

Even though SpaceX is a private company and doesn’t share its full financial details with the public, Musk revealed that about $1.1 billion of the $15.5 billion will come from working with NASA.

Back in 2022, SpaceX made around $4.6 billion in revenue. A forecast released in early 2025 predicted that the company’s revenue would grow to around $13.3 billion in 2024, up from $8.7 billion in 2023.

That prediction came very close! SpaceX ended 2024 with an estimated $13.1 billion, just slightly below the expected number.

A large part of this success is due to Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service. Starlink provides high-speed internet to people living in remote or hard-to-reach areas across the globe.

It’s expected that Starlink alone could bring in about $12.3 billion in 2025, with approximately 7.6 million people using the service.

As of June 4, 2025, there are 7,578 Starlink satellites in orbit. Out of those, 7,556 satellites are actively working and providing service.

Just a day earlier, on June 3, 2025, SpaceX launched 23 new Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit. These were sent from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Out of the 23 satellites, 13 have Direct to Cell technology, which helps provide cell service in areas without towers. The rocket used for this mission had already flown 20 times before — and this was its 21st flight!

Besides Starlink and satellite launches, SpaceX is also building a new type of rocket. This rocket will be fully reusable and will be the most powerful ever made. According to SpaceX, it will be strong enough to carry people to Mars and other planets in the solar system.
