In a commanding start to his French Open journey, world number one Jannik Sinner triumphed over French newcomer Clement Tabur in straight sets on Tuesday at Roland Garros.
Sinner won decisively with scores of 6-1, 6-3, 6-4, efficiently progressing into the second round. Competing during the night session on Court Philippe-Chatrier, he showcased an aggressive baseline game that put relentless pressure on his opponent.
The Italian tennis sensation immediately displayed his dominance, breaking Tabur’s serve early in the first set, establishing a 2-0 lead before securing another break for 4-1. He concluded the first set with a powerful forehand winner.
Continuing this momentum, Sinner maintained his lead in the second set, overwhelming Tabur with his speed and precision. The French player struggled to cope with Sinner's relentless attack, and the top seed surged ahead.
While Tabur displayed flashes of brilliance in the third set, drawing cheers from the home crowd, Sinner's strong groundstrokes and tactical shot-making ultimately proved decisive, allowing him to close out the match seamlessly.
Sinner entered the French Open amidst a stellar 29-match winning streak, having lost only three sets during this period and recently achieving a historic Masters 1000 title collection.
Post-match, Sinner expressed his gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support, even while competing against a local player.
“I’m thrilled to be back here, a place filled with great memories. First-round matches are never straightforward,” Sinner remarked. “Thank you for being here and for your fairness towards me, even while playing against a Frenchman.”
