Sheikha Latifa Discusses ‘Season of Wulfa’ Cultural Initiative

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chair of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, convened with the creative minds behind the Season of Wulfa initiative in Dubai.

Initiated by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, this project is spearheaded by Sheikha Latifa.

The Season of Wulfa honors significant cultural events like Haq Al Leila, Ramadan, and Eid, focusing on Emirati values, cultural identity, and the strengthening of community bonds. This initiative fosters connections among UAE nationals, residents, and visitors through interactive and enriching experiences.

The creative team comprises notable Emirati experts across fields including design, media, literature, and cultural research. Their collaborative approach ensures that the initiative’s cultural messages remain authentic and relevant to Emirati society and its traditions.

Sheikha Latifa emphasized that culture significantly enhances social cohesion and modern values such as tolerance and respect. This vision aligns with the leadership ethos of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who prioritizes citizens' happiness and well-being as central to sustainable development.

Commemorating Unity

Sheikha Latifa detailed that the Season of Wulfa rests on three foundational concepts: reflection, connection, and blessing. This initiative embodies deeper Emirati, Arab, and Islamic values, reinforcing feelings of belonging. The season encourages moments of reflection, renewed relationships, and the fortification of social ties through shared cultural experiences.

Furthermore, she noted the initiative promotes joy, generosity, and camaraderie, simultaneously highlighting the need to cherish Emirati cultural heritage. Dubai offers a fertile ground for creative expression, enabling talents to celebrate significant occasions in profound ways. Partnerships are crucial to achieving the initiative’s aims and elevating Dubai’s cultural profile.

The meeting attended by representatives from various government sectors, including The Executive Council of Dubai, Roads and Transport Authority, and Dubai Culture, brought together influential Emirati creatives and cultural ambassadors. Led by Shaima Rashed Al Suwaidi, this assembly consisted of artists, filmmakers, writers, and designers, collectively enriching the initiative.

Insightful Contributions

At the meeting, attendees highlighted the pivotal role of the Season of Wulfa in expressing accurate Emirati and Arab cultural values while reflecting local heritage and identity. They reviewed key milestones and findings related to shifts in cultural values and the significance of traditional events.

The creative collective noted that through thorough dialogue and community engagement, the initiative’s vision was finely tuned. This collaborative effort refined the experience principles, set design standards, and established the season’s overarching strategy.

The Season of Wulfa will roll out over 50 activities and initiatives at more than 30 sites throughout Dubai, spanning neighborhoods, markets, and cultural landmarks, in partnership with government bodies, private enterprises, and local communities.
