An Emiri Decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has formally created the Sharjah Sports Council (SSC) to steer the emirate’s sporting agenda.
The decree names Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Humaid bin Saqr Al Qasimi as Chairman of the SSC. The council’s composition includes eight appointed members: Dr Abdullah Abdulrahman Yousef bin Sultan, Adel Saleh Yousef Al Hammadi, Abdullah Sultan Al Dah Al Matroushi, Abdullah Mohammed Al Malih Al Fazari, Omar Hassan Ali bin Hanifa, Dr Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Yasi, Dr Saif Ahmed Saif Khalaf Al Zaabi, and Hanan Mohammed Al Mahmoud.
The SSC is tasked with developing talent pathways, upgrading sports infrastructure, and expanding competitive and participation opportunities for athletes. Its remit will cover programmes aimed at youth development, boosting grassroots engagement in sports, and organising events at local, regional and international levels within Sharjah.
This initiative aligns with Sharjah’s broader strategy to position itself as a regional centre for sport and wellbeing. By assembling specialists from multiple fields, the council plans to deploy policies that prioritise innovation, inclusivity and long-term sustainability across the emirate’s sports ecosystem.
