The Qatar-UAE Joint Supreme Committee for Cooperation recently wrapped up its seventh session in Abu Dhabi, marking a pivotal moment for both countries as they commit to enhancing their strategic relationship and cooperation across various sectors.
Chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, alongside UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the meeting saw participation from senior officials and representatives from both nations.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their historical ties and shared vision, indicating a transition towards a more unified approach aimed at fostering economic development, regional cooperation, and stability.
During the discussions, a variety of cooperative areas were reviewed, emphasizing the need to translate agreements and discussions into actionable projects that yield tangible results.
Economic Growth as a Priority
Qatar and the UAE outlined the significance of economic integration as a vital mechanism for boosting competitiveness, enhancing growth diversity, and promoting sustainable development.
They pledged to foster a better business environment, promoting mutual investments, and supporting partnerships within the public and private sectors, reinforcing their positions as prominent global investment centers.
Progress in financial collaboration was welcomed, particularly discussions surrounding a memorandum of understanding between their finance ministries and ongoing efforts regarding double taxation agreements.
Potential cooperation between the Qatar Investment Authority and Mubadala Investment Company was also highlighted as an area of mutual interest.
Emphasizing the importance of the Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement, officials noted it as a critical step toward establishing a transparent investment landscape that boosts investor confidence and strengthens economic ties.
Collaborative Efforts in Trade and Technology
In the realm of trade, the two countries agreed to enhance collaboration between their chambers of commerce, facilitate trade delegations, and regularly exchange economic information to bolster business and improve trade exchanges.
Discussions also focused on sectors poised for significant growth, such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and digital transformation—areas identified as essential for future innovation and economic progress.
Qatar and the UAE committed to sharing expertise in digital strategies, governmental services, and AI to facilitate a transition towards knowledge-driven economies.
Commitments to Transportation and Food Security
Expanding on infrastructure, the nations explored ways to enhance transport connectivity—air, maritime, and land—while fostering collaboration among ports and industrial areas to streamline supply chains and trade.
In food security, both countries agreed to expand collaborative efforts within agricultural and livestock sectors, establishing strategic reserves and ensuring the availability of essential goods in times of need.
Engagement in Social and Humanitarian Areas
The session also highlighted cooperation in critical social sectors, including health, education, labor, media, culture, sports, and humanitarian initiatives.
Both nations underscored the need for continued coordination, knowledge-sharing, and adoption of best practices to enhance humanitarian and developmental collaboration.
Signed Agreements Highlights
Several key agreements were finalized during the meeting, showcasing growth in the partnership between both countries.
These included:
Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement
Two MoUs focusing on agriculture and food security dealings
MoU for municipal cooperation between Doha and Abu Dhabi's municipal departments
At the conference's conclusion, both parties reiterated their dedication to realizing the agreed outcomes, bolstering Qatar-UAE relations through strategic cooperation.
