The State of Qatar actively participated in the 12th session of the Multi-Year Expert Meeting on Investment, Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Productive Capacity-Building and Sustainable Development, organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. This gathering took place on May 4–5 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
Representing Qatar was HE Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, the nation's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva.
In her speech, she outlined plans for the upcoming UNCTAD World Investment Forum 2026 and reaffirmed Qatar's determination to collaborate with UNCTAD in hosting this significant event in Doha, scheduled for October 25 to 27, under the theme “Investing in the Future.”
She emphasized that Qatar is diligently preparing to ensure the forum's success amidst prevailing regional challenges. The forum will delve into critical topics such as global value chains, the digital economy, green transformation, and the paths to peace and reconstruction.
Furthermore, Dr. Al Muftah brought attention to how recent regional tensions have impacted vital infrastructure and gas production. She stated that these developments highlight the fragility of global supply chains and pose risks to the economic stability of developing countries.
She underscored the necessity of safeguarding international economic infrastructure and ensuring reliable trade routes for sustainable development and global economic security.
Moreover, Dr. Al Muftah pointed out that Qatar is bolstering its position as a regional investment hub, intertwining its leadership in energy security with significant investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure. These initiatives aim to promote innovation and solidify Qatar's role in global market stability.
