In a remarkable display of talent, Qatar concluded the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games with a remarkable tally of 11 medals. Held in Saudi Arabia, the event culminated in a vibrant closing ceremony at the Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University Stadium on Friday evening. The participation of thousands of athletes from across the globe highlighted Qatar’s rising prominence in regional sporting events.
Qatar's medal pursuits started with swimmer Ali Tamer, who won silver in the men's 100-meter freestyle, kick-starting the nation's campaign on a positive note. Shortly after, weightlifter Wissal Khalef dazzled with a stellar performance, securing three gold medals in the women’s over-86 kg category, further enhancing Qatar’s medal count early in the competition.
The country continued to excel in various sports, as Sheikh Ali bin Khalid Al-Thani secured a silver in equestrian show jumping, contributing to Qatar's fifth medal. The fencing team celebrated as Khalid Al Yafei claimed a bronze in the men’s foil. In wrestling, Shaheen Mohammed fought valiantly in the 77kg category, also taking home a bronze medal, while the Qatari 3x3 basketball team added a bronze to the total tally following a challenging tournament.
As the Games concluded, Qatar recorded three additional medals on the final day. The men's fencing team earned silver in the team foil event, complemented by the national handball team's bronze medal earned through exceptional teamwork. In athletics, Abubaker Haydar triumphed with a bronze in the 800m, rounding out Qatar’s participation with pride.
Overall, Qatar secured 3 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze medals across multiple disciplines. These results underscore the nation’s commitment to sports development and investing in athletes. The Games also showcased the escalating competition levels among the participating nations.
topping the medal standings, Turkiye led with an astonishing 155 total medals, consisting of 72 gold, 44 silver, and 39 bronze. Uzbekistan followed with 96 medals, including 29 gold, while Iran took third place with 81 medals. Saudi Arabia, the host nation, secured fourth with 57 medals, and Egypt rounded out the top five with 45 medals. The robust competition illustrated the expanding scale and quality of the Islamic Solidarity Games.
Over 3,000 athletes from 57 nations participated in the 23-sport event, marking one of the most significant editions of the Games yet. Disciplines included athletics, swimming, judo, fencing, weightlifting, and many other sports, along with para-sports events, ensuring a diverse and inclusive atmosphere.
Qatar's delegation comprised 82 athletes competing in 16 disciplines, demonstrating the nation's dedication to nurturing talent across various fields—including athletics, duathlon, 3x3 basketball, and more.
With 11 medals and numerous outstanding performances, Qatar's athletes have showcased their determination and growing international presence in sports, inspiring future generations as they prepare for upcoming competitions.
