Pune Man Murders Wife Inspired by 'Drishyam', Disposes of Body

Post by : Raina Nasser

A shocking case has emerged from Pune where a man is accused of murdering his wife in a gruesome act influenced by the film Drishyam. Sameer Punjabrao Jadhav, aged 42, is reported to have strangled his 38-year-old spouse Anjali on October 26, later incinerating her body in an iron furnace and dispersing the ashes in a river.

Their marriage, which began in 2017, had produced two children who were visiting relatives during Diwali, providing Jadhav the opportunity to carry out the crime without witnesses.

Authorities say Jadhav tried to mislead investigators by reporting his wife as missing and sending messages from her phone to fabricate her presence. However, discrepancies in his account, alongside technical evidence such as CCTV footage and mobile tower data, led law enforcement to identify him as the primary suspect.

Police have discovered that Jadhav meticulously planned the murder well in advance. He rented the godown, set up the furnace, and ensured his children were out of town. While reports suggest that marital strife played a role, it is also alleged that he was having an affair.

In his confession, Jadhav revealed that he drew inspiration from the film Drishyam, which tells a tale of skillful crime concealment, to devise his plan.

This case has been handed over to the Rajgad Police, who have filed charges of murder and tampering with evidence under the Indian Penal Code. Partial human remains found at the furnace site have been sent for DNA analysis.

Residents in Pune’s Shivane area expressed their disbelief, recalling Jadhav as a composed individual who seemed genuinely concerned about his wife. This incident starkly demonstrates how a facade of normalcy can mask horrific actions.

Investigations continue as authorities look to piece together the timeline of events, serving as a harsh reminder of the depths of premeditation and deceit in contemporary crime.
