Thailand is implementing dynamic strategies to enhance fruit exports, spearheaded by a live commerce initiative aiming to bolster demand among consumers. This campaign, led by Supajee Suthamphan, is designed to stimulate interest in Thai fruits ahead of peak harvesting periods.
The approach involves promoting fruits such as durian through online sales platforms, allowing for better supply management and avoiding drastic price drops when harvest volumes surge. The objective is to facilitate seamless distribution from farms to market stalls.
Starting from mid-May, a substantial influx of durians from Thailand's eastern regions is anticipated, alongside various seasonal fruits. By fostering demand early, the government strives to mitigate oversupply risks and uphold price stability for farmers.
In recent years, Thailand's fruit export metrics have been impressive, with over two million tons shipped abroad in 2025, bringing in more than 171 billion baht. Key markets for these exports included countries such as China, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
In the opening quarter of 2026, growth has been even more pronounced. Fresh fruit exports have surged, with durians showcasing particularly robust increases. This underlines the escalating global appetite for Thai produce.
To further expand its international market reach, the government is organizing business matching events that connect Thai sellers with global buyers, facilitating valuable trade interactions and opportunities for local growers.
Efforts are also ongoing to enhance the logistics and transportation network. Officials are actively surveying critical border points and trade routes to ensure efficient and prompt transportation of fruits to major markets like China.
A variety of promotional campaigns are planned for both online and offline venues. Thailand aims to participate in significant international trade shows while hosting fruit promotional events across various cities, particularly targeting China, the foremost market for Thai fruits.
Additionally, e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and Rakuten will be utilized for global sales of Thai fruits. This digital strategy aims to augment customer outreach and elevate Thailand's visibility in foreign markets.
Through these multifaceted initiatives, the government seeks to elevate the value of fruit exports by five percent this year, targeting a robust total of 179 billion baht. This comprehensive plan is projected to enhance income stability for farmers and broaden their market access internationally.
